*** NEW Feature Film - Check it Out NOW ***
The film is set in a forest in the Summer of the year 1610 during the Edo Period of Japan. The warrior Fox stumbles upon a Shrine dedicated to a legendary dragon deep into the forest. This is where the Fox valiantly fights to keep the child alive from the demons lurking in the shadows.
EXT. Shrine
The design reflects Japan's simplistic style by using common materials such as wood, stone, and paper windows for authenticity. The doors slide from side to side and don't use any modern conjunctures such as hinges. The square shape of the shrine is intentional as to not use complex shapes. This way, the exaggeration of the slope of the roof and the bold shape of the roof topper shine through.
INT. Shrine
The entrance wall and the side walls were designed to be simple and blank, drawing focus to the back wall where the dragon scroll hangs. Instead of creating two separate set pieces to act as the interior and exterior for the film, I designed the entire shrine so that it can be taken apart as necessary to get both interior and exterior shots. See how in the CONSTRUCTION section below and in the PRODUCTION BTS GALLERY.
Ginkgo Trees
The leaves vary in size and have a crimped texture. They also appear in clusters to make the tree appear full.
Originally designed to be small and sit on the entrance fence posts to the shrine, but was changed to be bigger and sit inside of the shrine to draw attention to the dragon scroll.
Must be handcrafted and painted by hand to have an authentic and legendary vibe to it.
An abandoned shrine and an incomplete set are two different things. The clay pots in disarray were a means to create the illusion that people had once visited the shrine, but it has since been vacated for some time.
Over the course of 2-3 months, the set was handcrafted by myself with the enlisted help of the rest of the crew.
